Well Water Sample Bottles

Just a reminder that RC Joy keeps me supplied with Water Sample Bottles for anyone who needs them. These are special sanitized bottles with chlorine indicators. If you need one just give me a call!

They recommend to all well residential owners that they should test their well water at least once a year.

Collecting Your Water Sample

  • Samples are very easy to contaminate so use care in handling the sample.
  • Wash hands prior to collecting the sample.
  • Do not touch the inside of the container and do not rinse it.
  • Do not touch the lip of the bottle or the inside of the cap.
  • Do not place the cap on the ground or in a pocket.
  • Find a proper location to take the sample, preferably an outside faucet that does not leak. Avoid dirty areas with close vegetation.
  • Do not sample from the kitchen or bathroom.
  • Do not sample in the wind or rain.
  • Disconnect any hoses, splitting devices, or other attachments from the faucet.
  • Turn the faucet on to full flow for several minutes.
  • Turn off the faucet and disinfect it using a propane torch or 50% bleach/water solution. (If using the bleach, allow the solution to remain for several minutes and then allow the water to run at full flow for several to remove any traces of the bleach. If using the torch method, you can turn the water back on immediately.)
  • Reduce the flow to a slow, steady stream about the size of a pencil.
  • Fill the container above the 100 mL line to the shoulder of the bottle and then replace the cap.
  • Place the sample in a sealable plastic bag and place the bag in a container of ice.
  • The sample must arrive at the laboratory (RC Joy, 19020 W. Little York Rd, Katy) to be set up within 30 hours of collection.
  • If you have any questions call the lab, RC Joy, at 281-858-5988 or 713-283-4528
  • They charge $20.00 cash (prices are subject to change though, check with them for the latest)
